Replace Cooktop on GE Range - Appliance Repair Forum

I would like to replace the white cooktop on my range with a black cooktop. AppParts Pros and GE has confirmed that the drop in part is available in black. In viewing the exploded diagrams, the exchange appears that it would be able to be done by a reasonably mechanically inclined person. I am also assuming that the radiant elements and their mounting bars are removable from one cooktop to be mounted on the other. I am also assuming that the hooks that support the cooktop at he back are reasonably easy to attach without extensive disassembly of the control panel. My questions are: 1. Is this job much more extensive than it appears? 2. What areas should I be particularly concerned during disassembly and re-assembly? 3. Are there small parts in addition to the cooktop that should be ordered at the same time because of likely damage during disassembly such as screws, spacers, etc.? In terms of my mechanical ability, I have replaced the eschuction (?) assembly on a GE Dishwasher. Interesting job, but everything works fine. Thank you. I will appreciate any advice that you can give me.

GE Modular Downdraft Cooktop - Appliance Repair Forum

I have a GE Modular Downdraft Cooktop that at times (especially after I've been cooking on it and the stove is hot) will lock and unlock by itself repetedly, it just keep beeping locked and unlocked, sometimes for close to an hour. The Control Panel Assembly is no longer a part that can be ordered, do you think this is a problem that can be repaired?

GE Oven - persistent F3 error - Appliance Repair Forum

    1. When replacing the temp sensor/probe, the instructions typically state to cut off the connectors on the end of the probe and also on the oven wiring harness and to use wire nuts instead. This seems strange given that the two connectors mate perfectly together. Would NOT using the wire nuts method cause the F3 error to continue? 1. A: i dont know how is it that you paid that much for it only you can answer that!

are copper bottom pans safe for smooth cooktops?

Q: have a GE electric profile stove with the flat cooking surface. the manual says you can you copper bottom pans but they might leave a residue that will look like scratches if you dont clean right away. Any truth to this ? what type of pan is best to use on smooth cooktops?

A: i've got a smooth cooktop do and occasionally use copper cookware,i've never had a problem but i never use the highest tempurature setting with it(thats what my manual suggested)

which company makes best cooktops and ovens?

Q: is GE built by kenmore or visaversa,

A: If you're looking for a gas appliance, Consumer reports did some testing a couple of years ago and found that the cheapest models worked just as well as the expensive models with the same heating ratings.
The only suggestion I have to you is to get a ceramic surface, instead of a painted surface. The ceramic surface handles wear and tear a lot better.
