Oven element replacement - Appliance Repair Forum
I've got a burned out oven element that needs to be replaced and I hate calling in a repairman for a $30 part. But the instruction that I find on line all say that the element connects to the wiring with screws. Mine is so old that the set up is a bit different. After I unscrew the back plate (that part was easy) and pull out the element, it is connected to the wiring with flat metal bits. How do I disconnect it from the wiring without breaking anything important? Thanks.

I have not worked on a machne this old recently, but I think you can access the rollers by releasing the top from the cabinet by inserting a screw driver or putty knife in the gap between the top and the front near the edges and flipping up the top. You can then take off the front and release the belt and remove the drum. This will get you to the rollers. There are two sheets of illustration online here, one an exploded view of the "bulkhead," the other an exploded view of the cabinet. Unfortunately, as I've never done any equivalent repairs, and haven't been inside this dryer except for removing the back panel, I'm not able to make head or tail of it as concerns getting inside the cabinet in order to take a look.

I have a Whirlpool oven with the basic 4 burner cooktop. Can I replace the top with a flat cooktop?
Q: I want to replace the standard cooktop I have with one of the newer flat cooktops. I was wondering if it's possible to retrofit the flat cooktop onto my existing oven or if I need an entirely new oven.
A: I assume that you have a range (oven and cooktop in 1 appliance). There isn't a way to remove the coil burners and replace it with a radient (smooth) top. If you are tired of your range, there are several options for replacing it that are completely affordable. I believe they start at about $499 for a good model, $699 for a top rated model at Sears.
If you have a wall-oven and cooktop (two seperate appliances), then it should be pretty easy to find a new cooktop. Just make sure that you measure carefully and bring the measurements with you to the store. Be exact. A nice cooktop will run you about $499 to $549 and you may want to consider paying extra for installation from a professional. If the company installs it and something goes wrong, they are liable, not you.
I hope that answers your question.
