Rowenta Professional DX8800 Iron with Auto Shut-off
Rowenta Professional DX8800 Iron with Auto Shut-off
This iron is the best that I have ever used. It steams better than I ever imagined. You can use it horizontally or vertically with equal success. It has extra long bursts of steam and is anti-drip. I have to steam and iron a lot because I’m a sewer. This iron makes ironing an easy task.
It offers ergonomic controls, a 3-way auto shut-off, an extra large water tank in which you can actually use tap water, not just distilled water, and lots of other features. When ironing in the dry position it doesn’t drip any water onto your clothing. My old iron always leaked even when in the dry position. So the Rowenta is perfect for ironing silk since there is no chance of water spots that would ruin the material.
The vertical steam option is perfect for steaming fabrics that are on a dress form. The polished stainless steel soleplate makes it glide over fabrics, and around buttons and seams, it doesn’t drag at all.
This iron is well worth the price. I actually asked for this iron as a Christmas present last year. After seeing how well the Rowenta Professional DX8800 Iron with Auto Shut-off performs my daughter has now added it to her wedding registry.
This iron performs very well. It’s very solid and the steam comes out of the unit very fluidly and evenly no matter which steam setting you’re using. The auto shut off is a nice option to have. I no longer have to worry about whether or not I turned off my iron after I’ve already left the house.
I would recommend this iron to anyone that needs to replace their iron. I will never go back to the “bargain” irons again. My Rowenta makes ironing a breeze.
Pros:
- stainless steel soleplate
- excellent steaming
Cons:
- pricey

Professional laundries and dry cleaners know that he secret to quick, impeccable results is steam in abundance. To achieve this they use large water boiler/steam generators that provide endless amounts of steam. The New Pressure Iron & Steamer uses advanced technology to bring this type of performance into the home. 1) In a separate base, pressurized steam is produced in large quantities. 2) The steam is distributed to the iron through the 6 foot steam cord. 3) The iron delivers the steam on demand, by pressing the trigger under the handle. 4) The pressurized steam penetrates quicker and deeper into the fabric, providing professional quality ironing quickly. The DG5030 Pressure Iron and Steamer will SAVE TIME-increased ironing performance reduces ironing time; SAVE MONEY by reducing trips to the dry cleaner; CLOTHES LOOK GREAT- Commercial style system produces professional results with ease. The DG5030 Features: Powerful Vertical Steam allowing iron to be used upright remove wrinkles from hanging garments, curtains, drapes and slipcovers; Variable steam control adjusting according to fabric types; 1750 watts of power for professional results; 33oz Water Capacity for 1.5 hours of autonomy; Ergonomic Trigger for powerful steam on demand; Stainless Steel Soleplate for excellent glide and non scratch properties; Long 6 foot hose for optimal versatility; Convenient stable iron rest and compact base for easy use and storage.
I just got this iron yesterday at Linens & Things using their standard 20% coupon you find all the time in the newspaper. I tried it out on a cotton shirt and got the job down about five times faster than usual, less work, and no wrinkles. The shirt looked like I got it back from the cleaners. I also have an Elna ironpress, which also saves time, but I think I will prefer using the Rowenta steam iron since it steams the material while you iron it, and it can get into more nooks and crannies. Note to Rowenta Engineers -- it would be nice if the water tank had a level indicator to let you know how much water is in it. This would help when you fill it so as to prevent overfilling. Another option would be a removable water tank you could take over to the sink to fill. Also, if this is a typical high quality Rowenta product, why only a one-year warranty? Why not five or ten years?...
Irons On Sale: Rowenta DX8900 Professional Iron with No Auto Shut-Off
The DX-8900 Professional iron offers an extra long burst of professional steam, ideal for removing tough wrinkles and creases. The new AIRGLIDE soleplate has an advanced steam distribution pattern for easier, one-pass ironing. The full comfort handle, anti-slip rear and ergonomic buttons ensure a safe, comfortable iron. No auto-off means its ready for use at any time during long sewing or crafting projects. This iron is the best all around iron on the market today. I don't say that lightly either. It does pull more power with it's heavy duty electric cord, I expect my electric bill will go up slightly now that I use this exclusively on my fabrics..... But the finished product is so much nicer and I get the professional finish I want to have on my handwovens. The added cost is worth the finished product.

Is is normal for my Rowenta iron cord to get hot?
Q: Whenever I iron my clothes the iron cord near the plug gets hot. I tried using another iron and that ones cord also warms up near the plug. Is there something wrong with my outlets or is it normal for the cord to seem warm/hot? I've used this iron for a year in that same outlet without any problems. I'm confused. Please help if you can.
A: An iron draws in much electricity so it can heat up to a hot temperature. The cord might get warm, but if it is very warm or hot it can be a fire hazard. You should try another outlet and if that doesn't make a difference then you might need to replace your iron(s). I use my iron occasionally at the hottest level and the cord is never hot.
how do you take apart a rowenta iron?
Q: I've got two: model DE-87.1C and DA 80.4. There's a single screw holding on the back plate which covers the wiring, but the front is still holding tight on the 80.4 unit. On this unit the thermostat is tightening up, and it leaks. The newer 87.1 stopped heating.
A: I don't know specifically, but you can check for this: There might be another screw or two in the electrical area that is exposed. Often times they are recessed into the plastic.
Then it might be a matter of a 'snap-in' fit between the two plastic parts, or the plastic body and the 'shoe'.
Last is to go online and do a search of a parts drawing of the units. (Oh wait...it might make sense to do that first....)
Good Luck
Mike
