I need an estimated value on a vintage 1979 Amana Radarange Touchmatic II microwave oven. Thank you?
Q:
A: Pay somebody 10 bucks to hall it off for you. Sorry
What's the best convection/microwave oven?
Q: Leaning toward Sharp and Amana. Would like to stay under $300, with a small to medium footprint and minimum 900 watts. Is the convection feature even worth it? I have an oven -- just don't like it. Uncomplicated operation would be great. Any info or ideas welcomed. Thanks.
A: I had a convection oven once and I just couldn't get the hang of it. The problem is that a convection oven blows hot air throughout the oven, rather than having a burner that radiates throughout the oven. This causes the heated air to be forced up to the top instead of just radiating out evenly.
What I experienced is that uncovered dishes would then get burned on the top. But, the part that was in the dish or pan was protected from the hot air by the sides and bottom of the dish. So, it would be undercooked.
Before you get a convection oven, talk with people who own one and find out what their experiences have been. If they have had similar experiences, then you might want to reconsider getting one and just splurge on a high-end microwave.
As far as a microwave, I have a GE signature series model that has worked extremely well for a few years now. They're expensive (about $450. But, GE does make some excellent kitchen appliances).
