Replace Cooktop on GE Range - Appliance Repair ForumI would like to replace the white cooktop on my range with a black cooktop. AppParts Pros and GE has confirmed that the drop in part is available in black. In viewing the exploded diagrams, the exchange appears that it would be able to be done by a reasonably mechanically inclined person. I am also assuming that the radiant elements and their mounting bars are removable from one cooktop to be mounted on the other. I am also assuming that the hooks that support the cooktop at he back are reasonably easy to attach without extensive disassembly of the control panel. My questions are: 1. Is this job much more extensive than it appears? 2. What areas should I be particularly concerned during disassembly and re-assembly? 3. Are there small parts in addition to the cooktop that should be ordered at the same time because of likely damage during disassembly such as screws, spacers, etc.? In terms of my mechanical ability, I have replaced the eschuction (?) assembly on a GE Dishwasher. Interesting job, but everything works fine. Thank you. GE Profile Range Outer Glass Replacement - Appliance Repair ForumThe outer glass on the oven door shattered when my son hit it. The glass appears to be just double side tape stuck to the outside of the oven door. Granted it is good tape and took a while to get all of the old glass out of the way. In searching for parts I can seem to find only the entire door assembly and not just a replacement glass. Can someone recommend a place to purchase the outer glass only and also recommend the best way to re-adhere it to the oven door? Thanks! Added new igniter when I turn on the oven I see the igniter glow really bright but I start smelling gas but no flame starts below. A: I once had a customer replaced his own igniter and put it in upside down, it was so high up that the gas was passing completely below the glowing coil for several seconds before it would finally ignite, usually with a loud booming sound. If that's not your problem, then there's most likely a problem with the gas safety valve, to which the igniter is connected by wires. Replace that and your gas smell should go away. Just be sure to check the fitting joints with some soapy water after changing. I have a GE electric range/oven that is tripping the circuit breaker after about 10 min, help?Q: Ge oven/range tripping circuit breaker when trying to bake. It last about 10 minutes and then trips. After time, the breaker will reset and do the same thing over again. I have changed out the lower heating element and still have the same problem. Visually, the circuit looks simple, but there is no schematic to trace the wiring. Hope someone can help. A: I would start with an amp clamp to determine how much current the oven is drawing at the circuit breaker. That would tell you if the circuit breaker is weak or if the oven or wiring has a problem. No sense buying parts that won't fix it. Well, you already know that. The circuit is very simple. It could be a weak breaker, a loose connection, a loose receptacle/plug connection, or a short brought on by the heat. This is assuming the oven worked fine in the past. any ideas where to find a inexpensive replacement clock for a GE range?Q: I found a website for an appliance parts dealer but they wanted big bucks....over a $100. It's progressively made more and more noise, sort of a grinding sound, so I finally disconnected it, but if I could find one cheap I'd replace it. It came out pretty easy. A: If it is really just a clock you can live without it. |
