I'm a bit new to appliance repair, and I'm trying to find a solution short of calling a Viking technician. I recently inherited a 30" viking range w/ convection oven, which means it has auto-reigniting burners. When it left the house it was at, the burners lit perfectly. Now, I have only gotten the ignition spark to work once. The oven, broiler, convection fan, and lights all work perfectly, just no ignition on the range. Has anyone seen this? I'm assuming something was damaged when it was moved, although I couldn't see anything obviously wrong.

There was a time in American culture when kitchen stoves were designed not to be elegant or an engaging topic of conversation, but to be unnoticeableto blend seamlessly in with the rest of the room and surroundings. The Viking Range Corporation was born purely out of the vision of founder Fred Carl Jr., a fourth-generation building contractor who noticed that people were starting to put ovens built for restaurants into their residences. He also noticed that when a stove built for commercial use was installed in a home, it might also install a few problems: super-high heat output, no safety features, lack of broiling ability, wasteful energy consumption, a standing pilot light rather than one that ignites automatically, bizarre and massive dimensions that dont align well with standard residential spaces.
So Carl began tinkering and set out to design and manufacture the best hybrid of residential and commercial stoves into one product. And thus he created the Viking stove, which today is often part of any expensive residential kitchen redesign that Americans are having done in suburban homes and city apartments.
Capitalizing on the success of their stoves, Viking made way for a slew of other products and appliances in the upscale kitchen space: Everything from subzero refrigerators and commercial-grade dishwashers to massive stainless-steel kitchen ventilation systems were inspiredand soon afterward, manufacturedby Viking.
With the economic boom times in the late 1980s, 1990s and early part of this century, kitchen redesigns abounded. Americas kitchens shined. Stainless-steel cleaner sales increased significantly as homeowners and domestic cooks everywhere began to place more emphasis on the kitchen. As the years passed, Viking also started to focus its energy on cooking products for the outdoors, such as grills, smokers and cabinetry. It also developed its own line of cutlery, cookware and countertop appliances. Are Viking Ranges worth the money?
Q: I've heard mixed reviews.
A: Consumer reports doesn't seem to like them too much. Here's a couple of other brands that scored much higher and cost about half as much.

A: Try a search on Ebay. Sometimes a restaurant is going out of business and you can find used one much cheaper.
Cleaning a Viking Range Oven?
Q: I recently bought a VIking Range (Gas/Freestanding/Sealed burners). Through the excitement and joy of cooking, I have gotten a few oil splashes and food stains on the surface as well as on the cast iron.
Any ideas on best cleaning methods?
A: The best way to clean the surface, burners, grills, burner caps, etc on your range is by hand using warm, soapy water and a soft cloth or non scrub sponge. Then towel dry them completely.
Since yours are coated/sealed, don't put the burners in the dishwasher or let them soak, which will lead to rust. If there are really stubborn stains, you could try bar keeper's friend. It's a very mild abrasive that removes rust and stains without damaging that material.
