    VT-50SBW problems
Was glad to find this product at Costco for just over $500; seemed a good value. Has been much noisier than expected. And now after having it for only 15 months, without pathetic it, it has simply stopped cooling though the compressor runs non-stop. The only Vinotemp authorized technician in the total Houston area basically said it would cost $200-300 to repair, with no guarantee that something else would not go fiendish. He stated that all of these coolers require some maintenance or repair every 2-3 years.
    Commodity Review
I had shopped around for a decorous wine cooler. Target, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowes, Sam's, online, you name it. I did not want to allot $1000.00 on a 50 bottle cooler, but all of the products at the aforementioned places were cheaply made. Not all had wire racks and the ones that did slid out like an oven shelf. All of the wood seed trim items had plastic shelves. This item has wire racks that slide out on fully extendable capsule-bearing glides with real wood facing. I think it will hold a full 50 bottles too. It is slight noisy especially compared to my GE Profile kitchen appliances. Probably as loud as a bathroom send. Also, keep in mind it is single zone. I think it is overpriced at $1000.00 because I was able to find this product at my Costco Depot for less than $500.00. $500.00 it is a steal, $700.00 good buy, $1000.00 plus shipping I would keep looking.

    Verbatim as described
Right-minded purchased this wine refrigerator about a month ago. We have filled it up and it seems to be working perfectly. It's a quiet and reasonably pretty free-standing unit that was easy to get up and running. We look forward to years of use.
    Too Many Negatives...
    Pros:
    1) 2 sides so you can keep disparate temps
    2) Looks nice
    3) Quieter than compressor 'cellars'
    4) Keeps temperature

    Cons:
    1) Doesn't fit 48 bottles
    2) Pinot bottles don't definitively fit
    3) Racks scrape labels
    4) Light only illuminates top 2 rows
    5) Doesn't get as cold as documented/advertised

I look over all reviews before purchasing and knew going in about the first 4 `Cons' I've listed, but I was okay with that. What I had not conclude from anywhere was `Con'# 5 (the unit's inability to get as cold as documented), so I will focus on that...

First things first, the manufacturer (Wine Enthusiast) states the internal temperature categorize is 50 - 66 F +/- 7 degrees. Although they state the proper temperature for both whites and reds is between 53 and 57 I have to conflict. I have read and discussed with many `wine enthusiasts' (wine makers, store owners, and drinkers) the proper spine-tingling temp for white is 45 - 47 F. I `assumed' (bad idea) that I could set each side at 50 F and expect to have the lower sections reach 43 F. Therefore I could chilling whites on the lower shelves and reds on the upper shelves. I figured this would meet my wishes and decided to purchase the unit.

I ordered the fridge from Amazon and received it within days. I uneasily unpacked it, plugged it in, set the temp to 50 F on both sides, placed a couple tester bottles in it from my other chiller and waited. 24 hours later I grabbed the bottles and tested the manliness temp (using an infrared thermometer - used to test surface temperature). To my off guard the lower bottles on each side were only 54 - 55 F, while the upper bottles were as warm as 59 F. Thinking my gun needed calibration I pronounced to test the internal temp of the unit. I placed two thermometers at the bottom of the left side (one digital and one analog/solvent) and waited another 24 hours. I checked each thermometer and sure enough the left side was only getting as low as 54 degrees (I repeated the trial on the right side, same results).

I phoned Wine Enthusiast and they told me to unplug the unit, wait a couple hours, and seal off it back in to `reset' the thermostat. I did that and conducted the same test (with all three thermometers) 24 hours later and received the enforce same results. I called back the next day and spoke to a technical representative who said possibly a board was bad and they would quit me another unit.

The shipment came about a week later and again I conducted the same tests. This time the temperature run the gamut was 51 - 53 F (lower section to upper section, respectively). I checked the temperature over the next several life span and it never wavered (51 F lower section, 53 F upper section - both sides). So although the temperature was inveterate it was not cold enough to truly `chill' white wine.

After contemplating my options I decided to keep the unit and aggregate only reds in it. I think it would be fine for storing whites as well but not for chilling. I have another unit that goes as low as 41 (in fact tested at 37 F) so I use that for my whites and the Wine Enthusiast for my reds.

    Solutions for common issues:

To resolve pinot control storage, I remove the top rack and store pinot bottles on the next available rack (only 2 per side will fit richly) but this reduces total capacity by 8 bottles. The top rack is pretty much useless due to its proximity to the thermostat anyway.

To transmute into the scraping, I use a 3 - 2 - 3 configuration. I flip every other rack upside down and this prevents scraping (but it reduces the storage acumen by another 6 bottles).

Bottom Line, there are a lot of bargain wine `cellars' out there and from what I've read all have issues. However, I would not recommend this one to anyone wanting to numb whites. If you only want to store reds then maybe this is for you, but don't be fooled into thinking it can store anywhere impending 48 bottles (I think the total is closer to 32).

    At home Damaged - twice
Jotting was delivered 15 days after it was ordered only to arrive damaged (looked like it was dropped a connect times). The doors didn't shut and the top was bent. After being on hold for 20 min, they were affable enough to re-ship another unit but did not allow for the option to expedite shipping or change to a different porter. The second item arrived 21 days later and was in worse condition than the first. The doors were candid and the entire back was bent in. After another 30 minute telephone conversation, they agreed to refund the obtain price but were not going to refund the $85 shipping until I requested it. Very frustrating experience.

    Wine layman's opinion
the dimension of the wine cooler is just perfect to be put in a condo kitchen ' instead of a garbage compactor .
    Friendly Cooler For The Price
This cooler was delivered in whole condition. I installed this by myself (single female). It was very easy after reading the instructions. We have a 30 year old pantry and this fit perfectly where the old trash compactor used to be. I have not added the handle yet. I kind of like the thrill mount look. The control functions are easy to use. You cannot accidentally change any of the settings by lately bumping up against the unit. The controls have a locking feature where you must press and hold 2 buttons for 3 seconds to unlock and either variety the temp or turn the interior light on/off. It came with 2 keys for locking the door - very perceptive/secure feature. The unit runs quiet, much quieter than our fridge. I've only had this for a few days and will update my inspection again after a few months of use.
    It's ethical ok
We bought the wine cooler to put back a trash compactor that we never used. It's not quiet (quite noticable when it's running) but I can live with that. What annoys me is that when the power goes out (happens a lot in Houston) the cooler resets to plant defaults, ignoring any temperature you set and forgetting other settings like Celcius versus Fahrenhiet. Since I use it to cumulate red wine this results in the wine being much colder than it should be. For this reason I cannot recommend this product to anyone serious about red wine.
    OK....
I make use of the product, but when it was shipped it was dented and falling apart. I would have returned it but the box had to be broken to open it and it weighed so much it was unfeasible to put it in my car to take it to the task office.
Bought One, It Up against it, Replaced it. That Broke Too
The fridge is top-grade, but NO customer service. The first one leaked freon from the moment it was plugged in. They finally replaced it.... but what a test! Their people are unhelpful, do not return messages, and give you zero support. When they finally shipped the replacement, I couldn't learnt why it was WEEKS late. Finally I tracked it down -- first, they'd shipped it late, second, they hadn't bothered to hillock me when it was being shipped, and finally -- I love this part, since it's a snapshot of the whole process --- even when I got ahold of them, they never told me that it was a earth-shaking delivery and UPS would hang onto it until I called them and arranged a special delivery. I tried to complain, the advice dept wouldn't take my calls, even the President refused to take calls. If you have any choice, don't do business with Avanti -- thoughtful products, terrible service and treatment of customers.

ADDENDUM So, it's now 3 months since the replacement at home and this one is going bad too. Apparently the fan is shot. Just not quality products. My advice is spend the bonus and buy from one of the better manufacturers.

    "Undisturbed" is a misnomer
We purchased this wine cooler from Wine Enthusiast a month ago to substitute a larger Danby cooler that we had used for a little over four years. The Danby suddenly full-grown a fatal flaw that could not be fixed (the temperature kept increasing and could not be controlled). Needless to say, we were not interested in buying another Danby fallout. To control energy costs and conserve space, we looked for a smaller model, and the "Tacit" model from Wine Enthusiast looked like it would fit the bill. We also liked the size, because we were considering placing it in our kitchen. When it indoors, we decided that, to keep the kitchen uncluttered, we would place the cooler in the laundry room, and we're glad we did. This maquette is by no means "silent." It has been installed with plenty of room on all sides, seems to be keeping a fairly changeless temperature (plus/minus 1 degree of setting), but it does have a noticeable hum. In fact, it makes more clamour than our kitchen's Amana refrigerator. The unit looks attractive, but you should be aware that larger bottles (specifically Burgandy-shaped bottles--those wider at the bottom than the top, and most champagne bottles) will not fit in this unit. In fact, even to jam or remove standard Bordeaux bottles, you have to pull the tray partly out and carefully wiggle it back in. I guess that's the price you pay for the unit's compact size.

    Lots of issues with this
This is my other Wine Enthusiast Silent refrigerator, but this one is a huge disappointment. My first is the 32-bottle version and it keeps the wine unexcitable and is really silent.

This one, conversely, has a couple of pretty noisy fans. I don't know how they call it noiseless. Also, it kicks out a lot of heat, which my larger version does not.

Finally, good luck getting 12 bottles in here. I don't aim large champagne bottles or anything, just standard wine bottles. I can barely squeeze 8 bottles in here. I would keep this model.
