Cake Walk: Stand Mixers: Kitchenaid vs. Cuisinart
Today, I'll compare and contrast two of the trendier brands - KitchenAid and Cuisinart. I purchased my own KitchenAid Artison in the fantastic wake-me-up Empire Red at Bed Bath and Beyond almost 2 years ago. (Hint: If you decide to buy yours from Bed Bath and Beyond, use the 20% off coupon - that's a lot of money saved!) Then, I won the Cuisinart SM-55 in the Let's Eat Cake competition in February 2009 . The mixer was white, which matched my appliances perfectly! Here are my babies, facing off: As a side note, you see those wonderful funny-looking things hanging down underneath my cabinets? They're tap-lights. I thought I was being so clever when I put those under there. That'll eliminate the cabinet shadows, I thought! Hmph. I think there's more light under the cabinets without those wimpy little lights. Whatever, live and learn right? It has a 5-quart polished stainless steel bowl that locks into place with a simple twist and works with 325 Watts. On the right-hand side is a lever to lock the arm in the downward position during mixing (recommended, although I always forget). The left-hand side features the slide control for 10 mixing speeds. The silver thing on the front above the bowl is where you can place the many, many, many attachements available (pasta roller, ice cream maker, citrus juicer, ravioli maker, sausage stuffer, etc.) The KitchenAid comes with the 3 standard mixing attachments - wire whip, nylon-coated flat beater, and nylon-coated dough hook. It also comes with a plastic pouring shield that sits on top of the bowl to prevent excessive splattering and a plastic bowl scraper, which I've never used - I just prefer my handy dandy rubber spatulas for scraping. The bowl design is ingenious. First of all, it is simple to lock it in place or lift it off the stand, even when it's full of cake batter. Second, the large handle is very comfortable to use while pouring batter into cake pans or scooping out buttercream. Third, the inside bottom...

Cuisinart SM-CJ Citrus-Juicer Attachment for Cuisinart Stand Mixer ...
Have now used my new juicer attachment several times and been very pleased. I haven't had the rattling and jumping problem mentioned in another review, just great, quick results. I love the power compared to my older electric citrus juicer, which would slow down and labor when pushed. No sign of flagging with this attachment on my 5.5 quart Cuisinart mixer. Very pleased. Kitchenaid or Cuisinart stand mixer?
Q: I'm looking into finally buying a good stand mixer. I know Kitchenaid is great, but has anyone also used the new Cuisinart? Does anyone have good comparisons to make between the two? If I'm going to plunk down my change I'd love to get the best one possible. Thanks alot!
Eileen
A: My Kitchen Aid mixer, with all attachments, was my mother's when I was a little kid - and I'm in my fifties. It still works wonderfully. The bowl and beater and other attachments still look like new. Half the numbers on the dial don't show because we've worn them off! My mother's "New" Kitchen Aid is from the 1970's and is still like new. And we use our mixers often!
I am having trouble removing my dough hook from my cuisinart stand mixer?
Q: after making a batch of bread dough, i went to remove the dough hook and it will not come off. does anyone have any ideas while i wait for a reply from the company? thank you!
after making a batch of bread dough, i went to remove the dough hook and it will not come off. and i really have tried and tried to remove it like you are supposed to (lift and turn and pull down and out). does anyone have any ideas while i wait for a reply from the company? thank you
A: I think you need to push up on the hook to release the spring and turn it counter clock wise to get the slot lined up and then pull down.
Recipe suggestions for cuisinart hand/stand mixer?
Q: I just got a new cuisinart hand/stand mixer. What recipes would you recommend to try?
I just want to know what YOUR favorite recipes are. I peruse allrecipes.com a lot, and I have been cooking/baking for a while. Just looking for anything really :D Maybe more savory dishes since I have sweets pretty down pat.
A: Congratulations! I have a KitchenAid (6 qt. Pro stand mixer), and just love it. I use it for so many things, as I also have all the attachments (dough, sausage, pasta, shredding, ice cream, etc.). So, instead of sharing a recipe here, I thought I could guide you to a couple of places for ideas ~ "break you in", if you will ;) There are also a few cookbooks out there that are completely geared toward using mixers (I have KitchenAid's "Mixer Bible", "The Essential Mixer Cookbook", and "KitchenAid's Cookbook").

Wanted to share that all of my choppers are Quisinart, and I know they will still be running long after I am gone ~ excellent machines!
Good luck, and I hope you find some of the sites above helpful ;)
